The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam was generated in 1988 in order to stimulate the national and international culture of documentary films. Since then the festival has developed into a huge event that is recognised all over the world.

World Press Photo is an extraordinary photography exhibition that tries to encourage high professional standards in photojournalism and to promote a free and unrestricted exchange of information. Each year professional news photographers compete for the picture of the year.

Over het IJ Festival (dates not yet confirmed)
1-30 July 2009 (Annual)
This festival in July is centred on the IJ harbour in Amsterdam and concentrates on dance, theatre and arts which are presented in a shipyard, in shipping containers and in an old Russian submarine. It provides a stage for young, emerging talent, as well as for more experienced and well-known artist and performers.
