Shakespeare Summer Festival

The Shakespeare Summer Festival is the oldest and biggest open-air theatre festival in the Czech Republic. It was originally initiated by Vaclav Havel at the beginning of the 1990’s and has developed into a major event in Prague’s cultural calendar.

This festival invites people who take an interest in brass music to participate in the International Brass Band music competition in the early days of each new year. The event in January ties up to the long tradition of brass music festivals in the Czech Republic.

Every year in May Prague holds the international Romany Festival Khamoro. The event features Romany performers and musicians from all over the world who come together in Prague to celebrate their cultural heritage. The highlight of the festival is certainly the parade of dancing and music performing Romany artists that follows a route from Wenceslas Square to Old Town Square.

Since 1996 Four Days, a non-profit and non-governmental association, has been organising this international theatre festival which presents innovative contemporary theatre projects, unique site-specific projects, exhibitions, projections, concerts and much more. Each year about 20 different groups from all over the world are participating.

Prague Spring is an international music festival presenting outstanding performing artists, symphony orchestras and chamber music ensembles. The organisation committee has been represented by important personalities of the Czech musical world already from the beginning of the festival in 1946.

Fringe festival Praha (dates not yet confirmed)

The Fringe Festival features a programme full of theatre, dance, comedy, music and film from all over the world. The director and founder, Steven Grove, has successfully established a non-verbal theatre festival for kids and adults in Prague after receiving fantastic critics with the same idea in Scotland.

The World Festival of Puppet Art was first held in 1996 and since then has welcomed the finest international puppeteers from all over the world to meet in Prague and present their craft to the public. The programme includes traditional and innovative performances for children or adults.
