Athinais
One of many art establishments to spring up in a formal industrial district, this gallery space used to be a silk factory. The building still has its original stonework from the 1920s, and retains something of an old and classic feel. In addition to a gallery with many rotating exhibits, there is also a Museum of Ancient Cypriot Art, a concert hall, theatre, and cinema in the same building. One of the best times to peruse the art in the galleries is at night. This is when there is always plenty of activity, and you can combine your visit with having dinner and watching a show.
Bernier/Eliades
A small and modern venue, this location is known as one of the best places in Athens to find quality contemporary art. Artists who exhibit here regularly include Gilbert and George, George Hadjimachalis, Tony Cragg and Juan Munoz.
Rebecca Camhi
A prestigious local artist, Rebecca Camhi made the bold move of opening an art gallery in a warehouse in the unrefined Central Market district. Her colleagues may have questioned her at first, but they soon followed her lead. Camhi now hosts many shows and displays works by a variety of promising Greek artists. Her eclectic and varied shows have recently featured artists such as Nan Golin and Konstantin Kakanias.
