Municipal Theater
This neoclassical theatre was built in 1895 and modeled after the Opéra Comique in Paris. It is quite spacious and seats 1,200. The theatre is used for a wide range of cultural events and performances, including plays, dance, concerts, and lectures. Many Greek-language dramas are put on here every year. In the same building as the theatre is also the Panos Aravantinos Decor Museum, which exhibits sketches and models of sets, costumes and more.

Odeon of Herodes Atticus
This was an ancient theatre, originally built in 160 AD by the weathy Herodes Atticus. He is said to have built it in memory of his wife, Regilla. It has a strikingly beautiful location, nestled into a hillside, and has a typically Roman construction with arches, a three-storey stage building, and vaulted entrance ways. The theatre was restored in 1955, and now seats 5,000. It is an open air theatre so it is primarily used during the summer festivals. Performances include many modern Greek plays, ancient tragedies and dance performances.

The National Theater
This theatre presents a lively and varied program all year round, featuring both classical and modern plays. It was built between 1895 and 1901 by a German architect, Hernest Ziller, who designed other important buildings in Athens. When it was built, the theatre was one of the most technologically advanced in the world, because of the the sophisticated stage facilities and the lighting and heating systems. The theatre still manages to thrill and impress with elaborate stage designs, and no matter what kind of drama or dance performance you see here, it is likely to be memorable.
