Vardis
Located a bit outside of the city in the northern suburb of Kifissia, this restaurant is good enough to make the extra trip definitely worth it. The cuisine is French, but has a Mediterranean flair. Some distinctive appetizers include pigeon cassoulet with foie gras in fig juice, and octopus boiled in milk with hazelnut sauce. Some recommended main courses include crayfish linguine, caramelized lamb cutlets with mushrooms, and salt-crust duck with foie gras and sherry sauce. This delicious and decadent food is served in a setting of old fashioned elegance, with crystal chandeliers, white embroidered table cloths and period chairs. Reservations are necessary. All major credit cards are accepted.

L''Aubrevoir
One of the very best places for classic French cuisine in Athens, L’Aubrevoir is well-known for its gourmet dishes. This was one of the first French restaurants in the city, and has a devoted following of locals. It is also popular with tourists, and is located on Lykavittos hill, offering a very nice view. The food is traditional French and includes specialties such as frog legs, steak tartare, and a wide range of delicious seafood dishes. The most popular dessert is the crepes suzette, and there are always some fresh sorbets as well.

Beau Brummel
A recently-opened restaurant, Beau Brummel is run by world class Parisian chef Guy Martin. The actual cooking is done by chef Christophe Clessienne, but Martin acts as the “culinary consulatant,” and many of the dishes are of his creation. The cuisine here is French with Mediterranean influences, and only the best ingredients are used. There are two dining rooms within the restaurant, the upstairs one being more formal and more expensive, and the lower more casual. Freshly caught fish is one of the featured specialties, as well as a variety of succulent lamb, pork and beef dishes. The appetizers are delicious and feature a number of interesting salads and artistically-presented vegetables. After dinner, you can choose from a nice array of desserts, cheeses, cognacs and cigars.
