Monastiraki Flea Market
One of the most popular and famous markets of the city, the flea market has a long tradition and has been going on for centuries. It draws hoardes of visitors every Sunday and gets very crowded. The number and variety of goods on sale is amazing, and you can spend most of the day here perusing the interesting stalls. There are both old and new items, of almost every variety imaginable, including books, antiques, paintings, clothing, household items, furniture, toys, crafts, jewellery and more.

This food market offers an excellent selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, fish, meat and more. The prices are surprisingly low, and you get great value for your money here. Some specialties of the market include typical Greek spices and herbs, cheeses and sweets. This is also a great place to watch the natives in action, and see people from all walks of life. The market gets very lively and even a bit raucous at times, and always has a festive atmosphere.

This is an upscale market in Kolonaki and the stalls feature fruits, vegetables and flowers. It has a very different atmosphere from the Central Market, and is a bit more subdued. You will see Athenian matrons shopping with their servants, who will be the ones carrying all the purchases. The produce is of excellent quality and the flowers are beautiful. You can buy them in little pots or in lovely arrangements.
