Spanish people do not take their coffee as seriously as the Italians, so don’t expect a large variety of coffee or places that specialize in coffee. However, there are many nice café’s where you can enjoy a good coffee and a light meal during the day.
Spanish coffee is strong, slightly bitter and mostly excellent. The three basic types of coffee; Café con leche, which is about fifty percent coffee and fifty percent warm milk. If you would like a large cup, ask for grande or double. The second, Café Solo is a strong small black coffee (espresso), and the third type is café cortado, which is an espresso with a little milk.
If you are into decaffeinated coffee, make sure to ask for de maquina (from the machine), or you will get a small bag of instant coffee that you pour to the cup.
Cafés and Pubs can be found nearly everywhere in Barcelona. Most of the cafés also serve small dishes and snacks.
