Culture
Barcelona has a worldwide reputation as one of the most important centres of architecture and art. The spirit of famous colourful artists and architects such as Antonio Gaudi, Joan Miro, Antoni Tapies and Pablo Picasso inspires the city wherever you go. The city is blessed with major museums that present the exquisite work of its fine artists, so there are plenty of museums you can visit and enjoy. In 1999 the Royal Institute of British Architects awarded the city with the Royal Gold Medal for Architecture.
Barcelona enjoys many festivals, fairs, games and parades through all year round. In order to find out what is going on and what events are hosted by the city during your stay, it is best to check for information at the tourist offices or at the city’s cultural information office in the Palau de la Virreina (Tel. +34 93 3017775).
If you are interested in seeing a movie; there are dozens of cinemas in Barcelona. Some of the cinemas show foreign language films in the original language and have Spanish subtitles.
