La Boqueria
This is probably the most famous food market of Barcelona. It is situated just off La Rambla and has a large variety of fruit, vegetables, fresh fish, crabs, lobsters, sweet counters, herbs and more. Some of the stalls close at lunchtime for siesta but stay open later at the evening. Don’t be tempted to buy from the stalls at the entrance, as you walk further in the prices will drop.
Opening times:
Mon – Sat: 8 am – 8 pm.

Mercat Sant Antoni
This is one of Barcelona’s best markets and is not packed with tourists as La Boqueria. This is a good food market and besides the regular fruit, vegetables and fish stalls you can also find here a fine tapas bar at the market centre. On Sundays there is a book and coin market just outside the Sant Antoni market. During August most stalls are closed.
Opening times:
Mon – Sat: 8 am – 2.30 pm and 5.30 pm – 8 pm.

Mercadillo de la Placa de Sant Josep
This little art market exists since 1977 and hosts paintings and art of local Catalan artists. The quality is pretty varied and the artists cover many art styles of art. The atmosphere is very friendly and you could try to have a bit of a chat with some of the artists.
Opening times:
Sat: 11 am – 10 pm, Sun: 11 am – 2 pm.

Mercat Dels Encants
This is definitely an authentic noisy flea market. Many vendors just pour their stuff on a cloth in front of them, so you really have to look carefully for bargains. You never know what to expect when you arrive at this market: tools, second hand clothes, antiques, cosmetics and a lot of fascinating junk. Saturday is the busiest day of the market, so try to avoid it. If you are really interested in looking for the good stuff make sure to arrive early.
Opening times:
Mon, Wed, Fri and Sat: 8.30 am – 6 pm.
