Gemäldegalerie - Old Master Paintings
The Gemäldegalerie was founded in 1830 and contains masterpieces by artists from the 13th to 18th century. To name are for example van Eyck, Bruegel, Dürer, Rubens, Vermeer, Rembrandt and a lot of other old masters which makes it to the world's exquisite collections of European art.

The exhibition area is located at the Kulturforum Potsdamer Platz and has a demension of 7.000m² (72 rooms). The main gallery enclose 1000 masterpieces.
There are two major sections: the paintings from Italy (13th to 16th century) and the paintings from the Netherlands (15th and 16th century).
Pictured by great masters like Konrad Witz, Baldung Grien, Albrecht Dürer, Holbein and Cranach are the eras of the Late Gothic and Renaissance.
With its unusual octagonal form the Rembrand room is the heart of the museum. His paintings have a very high quality and key position.
The magnificent collection of the 18th century from Italy, France, Germany and England includes works by Canaletto, Watteau, Pesne and Gainsborough.
There is also a digital gallery with computerized information in German, English and French. Furthermore, you can do audio-tours which are available in German and English.

On the occasion of the 400th birthday of Rembrandt is a magnificent selection exposed. It’s a special exhibition about “Rembrandt – Quest of a Genius”.

Alte Nationalgalerie (Old National Gallery)
At the ‘Old National Gallery’ you can find one of the largest and prime collections of sculptures and paintings from 19th century designed by German artists. Themed by Classicism and Romanticism, Biedermeier, Impressionism and modern works, this is a very major collection and so it exposed a numerous of high quality major painters like Claude Monet and Paul Cézanne. In addition to these masterpieces there are famous sculptures from Johann Gottfried Schadow and a lot of more great artists.

Neue Nationalgalerie (New National Gallery)
The “New National Gallery” a museum for classical modern art is designed by Mies van der Rohe. It houses the permanent collection of paintings and sculptures from the European 20th century with the themes of Cubism, Expressionism,Bauhaus and Surrealism. There are shown masters like Picasso and Munch and of course numerous special exhibitions.
The building is also called the temple of light and glass and so for visitors it is unusual to see an exhibiton with so much natural lighting. Furthermore, there are red LCD tracks on the ceiling and the combination of these two materials should ‘shock’ the viewer and change the usual way of seeing art and exhibitions.

Kunstgewerbemuseum (Museum of Decorative Arts)
The “Museum of Decorative Arts” is the oldest one in Germany. It owns one of the most important collections of skilled craftmanship from the post-antiquity until present. From costumes to furniture and other interior like tapestries as well as vessels it shows every period and style in the history of art. There are also contemprary modern and hand-made designed objects.
