Berlin offers a wide range of different cuisines. Visitors may be surprised to find more international restaurants as typical dishes from Germany. Very popular are the Steak-Houses, Italian and Arabian dishes. However, in Berlin you can find nearly every kind of international food.
German people like to have their food on the buffet style: sausage, cooked eggs, sauerkraut, potatoes, ham, much sorts of cheeses, yoghurt, müsli and an extensive list of juices - everything what you desire. Some cafes and bars offer a huge brunch on Sundays. This small weekend-event could take a long time, sometime until the late-afternoon.
Berlin’s Cuisine
Formed by early influences of other regions of the country as well as France the traditional cuisine of Berlin is very simple and native. Normally the food is prepared without a lot of flavoring. Traditional dishes are knuckle of pork (Eisbein), brisket of beef (Rinderbrust) and roast goose (Gänsebraten) combined with vegetables like sauerkraut, kale and dumplings. Berlin is famous for its potato-salad, fried or raw hash, black pudding and latke (Kartoffelpuffer). There is a lot of meat in the food, but also vegetarians do not get a raw deal.
