Public Transport
Berlin is a city of great distances, making the U-Bahn (subway) and S-Bahn (commuter rail) ideal ways to travel. Most of the lines operate during the week between 05.00-00.30, with some running throughout the night.
The city is divided into three zones (A,B and C), so you have to buy tickets for A and B/C or for all three zones. You can buy these tickets on a counter in the main stations or at ticket machines at the stations.
There are a lot of different kind of tickets:
·Single ticket (one way)
·Day tickets
·Week tickets
·Weekend tickets
·Welcome card (two or three days)
·City tour card (premium)
·Brandenburg/Berlin ticket
·BVG kombi ticket
It is important to stamp your ticket before travelling by inserting it in a validating machine found on all platforms. These tickets can also be used on buses and trams.
Of course it is possible to go by foot through the city but the main tourist attractions are often miles apart, so public transport is necessary to get around.

The city has a lot of bus lines and reaches nearly all direction in Berlin. They run from approximately 6am to 12pm. The night buses run after the other services have stopped.
Berlin
by tram
Trams in Berlin are just on the east-side. It's a result from the recent history. They run similar to the busses from ca. 6 am to 12 pm. The night lines run after the other services have stopped.
Since 2004 there are Metro-Trams in the city which are an extension to the other transport network. They run 24h a day but in the night just every 30 minutes.
Some older trams are difficult to use with pushchairs and wheelchairs but the new ones offer smoother a ride and have well-designed low flooring.
Berlin
by metro
Berlin's metro is the most modern underground network in Europe - and the biggest in Germany.
The departures times are from ca. 6 pm to midnight. After that you have to use the other ways of transportation like bus or tram.

The S-Bahn review on a long history and has a lot of special offers, for example to make a trip with the old museums S-Bahn or the new Panorama S-Bahn.
During the week the S-Bahn runs between 5 am and midnight. On the weekend some lines go the whole night.
