Groeninge Museum
The Groeninge Museum is also known as the “City Museum of Fine Arts”. Its beginnings date back to the 18th century, although the building in which in is hosted is from 1929 - 1930. The name of the museum derives from the “Groeninge straat” close by but might also go back to the Groeninge fields in Kortrijk (Courtrai) where the Flemish defeated the army of the French king. The museum exhibits a broad selection of art that spans several centuries (14th ß 20th century) and focuses mainly on artists that lived and worked in Bruges. A rich collection of paintings are the pride of the museum including ''Death of the Holy Virgin'' by Hugo van der Goes, ''The altar of Saint Christopher'' by Hans Memling, ''The Justice of King Cambyses'' and ''The baptism of Christ'' by Gerard David. Renaissance and Baroque paintings come from painters such as: Jan Provoost, Lanceloot Blondeel, Adriaan Isenbrant and Pieter Pourbus. Gruuthuse Museum
The Gruuthuse Museum is located in the „House of Gruuthuse“ which belonged in the middle ages to the family Van Brugghe-van der Aa, a.k.a the lords of “Gruuthuse”. The name is a composition of the two words “Gruyt” and “huse”. “Gruyt” is a special herbal mix that was used by families who brew their own beer to give a certain taste or aroma to the beer. The tax paid for that herbal mix was paid in the “House of Gruuthuse” and the family owned the monopoly on the “Gruyt”. Today the house hosts an exhibition of antiques and several art collections. In 1865 the “Archaeological Society” of Bruges started the collection which was expanded and acquired in 1955 by the city Bruges. The collections include sculpture art, furniture, silver ware, metal ware, ceramics and textiles.

Memling Museum
This museum is dedicated to the painter Hans Memling (1435/40 ? – 1494), who was born in Seligenstadt, near Frankfurt, and became one of the most important “Flemish primitives”. He was influenced mainly by the painting scholl of Cologne and by the painter Rogier van der Weyden in Brussels. The Memling Museum is part of the St. John’s Hospital complex where the old hospital infirmary and the old pharmacy can be visited. In the former chapel six paintings of Memling are exposed. One of the masterpieces is the Shrine of St. Ursula, a wooden shrine where the relics of St. Ursula are kept. The other masterpiece is the ''Altarpiece of Saint-John the Baptist and Saint-John the Evangelist'' from 1479 which was painted for the main altar of the hospital’s church. The four other works are smaller, but certainly not less in value. There are two more religious triptychs: “The adoration of the Magi” made in 1479 and “The lamentation of Christ” from 1480.

The Beguine''s House Museum
The Beguine Museum is located in the Begijnhof or Beguinage in Bruge. Since 1928 it is a real monastery with Benedictine sisters. Before, however, the houses were used by monastery-like communities (beguiages) that lived in a kind of religious way but without making the vows real nuns had to make when entering a monastery. One of the houses in the Beijnhof has been transformed into a museum where visitors can get an idea how the beguines lived here since the 13th century. The museum shows a kitchen with a “Leuvense Stoof''”, a special oven used the Belgians. Other typical 18th century furniture and decoration material can be seen in the bedroom and the dining room.
