Ancienne Belgique
This is a hip venue for pop, rock, alternative and contemporary jazz concerts. They have recently built a new hall, with both more seats and better acoustics. Despite its large capacity, it has an intimate atmosphere, and is one of the most popular places in the city to hear these kinds of music. Many Belgian groups perform here regularly, as well as musicians from other places in Europe. Occasionally well-known groups from overseas can be heard as well. Tickets are usually € 16.

Theatre de la Monnaie
A dazzling variety of concerts, plays and dance performances are held in this prestigious theatre. It has a beautifully ornate interior and was also of historical importance as the site of the Belgian uprising in 1830. The theatre was founded as an opera house in 1700, and considered one of the most beautiful theatres in the world, but has since been rebuilt twice. Napoleon decided to rebuild it in 1800, and a new theatre by Louis Damesme was soon constructed. This was destroyed due to fire, however, with only the shell remaining. The theatre as it stands today was completed in 1856, designed by Joseph Poelaert in the neoclassical style. Check their website for detailed information on upcoming performances.

Sounds Jazz Club
This is a nice jazz club in the centre, near to the city hall. It’s been around for more than twenty years (since 1986) and is popular with a young crowd and contemporary jazz enthusiasts. It opens before noon, which is very unusual for jazz clubs, and you can snack or order lunch. The live jazz doesn’t start until evening, though. There is a set at 10 pm and usually one or two later sets. Admission is sometimes free, but otherwise quite low.
Opening times: Mon - Fri 11.30 am - 4 am, Sat 7 pm- late

It was renovated and modernized in the 80s, and is now one of the most popular music clubs in Brussels. You can sit at the bar or in front of the musicians when there is live music. During certain times of day, any visiting musicians can take a turn at playing. The regular live jazz shows are Saturday evenings and Sundays at 5 pm. There is no cover on Saturday nights. The bar has great drinks and specializes in wine and cocktails.

Marcus Mingus Jazz Spot
A cozy jazz club located in the Hotel Arlequin, this is one of the more expensive places to hear jazz in the city, but it has a nice old fashioned atmosphere and there is more going on here than most other music bars. Every night features a live band or combo, and fans of traditional jazz know that this is the place to be. The cover charge is reasonable, but the drinks are pretty overpriced.
Opening times: Mon - Sat 8 pm - late

Flagey
This unique club features a variety of musical styles, including jazz, world, pop, classical and contemporary music. Traditionally the emphasis has been on jazz, but that has changed in the last few years to accomadate a wider range of performances. A goal of Flagey is to include a wide range of styles to bring them into contact with each other to understand their common ground as well as their differences. The building in which it is situated is quite distinctive, an old art deco building that looks like a ship.
Opening times: Tues - Sat 11 am - 10 pm, Sun and Mon 5 pm - 10 pm
