Liszt Ferenc Music Academy
This is the most famous music venue in all of Hungary, and is also the location of the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy. The concerts here are usually classical, and often feature the renowned Hungarian Radio Symphony. This orchestra was founded in 1943, and has gained a worldwide reputation. They are especially known for their interpretations of Beethoven and contemporary Hungarian music. Order tickets for concerts at this venue well in advance, as they tend to sell out very soon.

Hungarian State Opera House
This popular and elegant opera house features all kinds of operas, and some plays are occasionally put on here as well. It is the home of the Hungarian State Opera, most famous for performing grand 19th century operas as well as 19th and 20th century Hungarian operas. Other companies also perform here, and you can hear everything from Montiverdi to Webern at some point during the year.
Operetta Theater
This theatre features lively, colourful operettas, primarily by Hungarian composers such as Lehár and Kálmán. The supertitles translate the librettos into both English and German, however. Many of the operettas have lighthearted, simple plots and are suitable for children.

Bartók Memorial House
This museum dedicated to the famous Hungarian composer Béla Bartók used to be his home. It is now used for Friday evening chamber concerts, performed by some of the country’s best groups. The music of Bartók is often featured, of course, but also all manner of other classical chamber music works. You might find early music groups, string quartets, singers and piano, or woodwind choirs playing here, for example.
