Arany Kaviar
During the Soviet era, this restaurant was called “Red Caviar,” but has since changed its name, and has recently upgraded the food. The decor is extremely opulent and decorative, like something out of the times of the Tsars. There are chandeliers, stained-glass windows, and paintings of grand Russian landscapes. Guests are seated in little wooden booths. As one would expect, caviar is a main specialty, as are borsch, beef Stroganoff, and Russian pancakes. Good vodka and other drinks are also available. Reservations are recommended. Credit cards are accepted.

This restaurant doesn’t look so spectacular from the outside, but once you pass through the door, you are in another world. The decor is flamboyantly luxurious, in the style of Tsarist Russia, with gilt chandeliers, ornate marble pillars, delicately carved chairs, and elegantly-laid tables. The cuisine features traditional Russian dishes as well some more creative ones. For starters, the classic thing to order is caviar and a shot of ice-cold vodka. There are also quail’s eggs and Astrakhan sturgeon if you want to pull out all the stops. There are also some excellent soups, and the main dishes usually feature meat or fish and fresh vegetables. The menu is most expensive on the weekends. On weekdays, the “business menu” carries some much-reduced items. The average cost here is around 5300 Fr. Credit cards are accepted.
