Cairo is the cultural centre of Egypt and offers many kinds of musuems, galleries, concert halls and cultural events to explore. There is also a thriving cinema scene, and many opportunities to view art films as well as mainstream movies. The city’s biggest and most popular venue for music, drama, film and dance is the National Cultural Center on Gezira Island. This complex includes seven different theatres, and always has a variety of events going on. Cairo has several museums, but the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities is by far the most famous, world renowned for its collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts and mummies.
