Maroush
This restaurant includes an indoor eating area as well as a popular outside café that has become a hangout for a young and trendy crowd. The best foods here tend to be smaller dishes such as spinach sambousak and tabboulah and the desserts. The grilled meat entrees include fries and tomatos, but are of more variable quality, sometimes being dry and overcooked. Delivery and takeaway are available.

The Greek Club
This is a club frequented by locals and expats, not only Greeks, and non-members are always welcome for dinner. There aren’t any menus, but the waiter or some of the regulars will be happy to explain what is on offer. A traditional Greek salad is always an option, and other popular regular dishes include fried calamari, escalope pane and kofta. The decor and atmosphere is reminiscent of the 1940’s and a large outdoor terrace is open in summer. A variety of beer and wine is served.

La Bodega
This establishment is home to Cairo’s hippest, most popular bistro and lounge. Grandly decorated in the spirit of the 1920’s, the restaurant is built to impress with its marble entrance hall, elegant lounge and furnishings of oriental antiques. A variety of Mediterranean dishes are served, all of which are well-prepared and delicious. There is also a well-stocked bar, known for making unusually good cocktails, though for high prices. Most customers dress up, and reservations are recommended.
