Khan al-Khalili
This is one of Cairo’s most famous and extensive outdoor markets. It has a tradition going back to the middle ages, and in many ways it has altered little over the centuries. The market extends through a few closely-packed streets and alleys. Khan al-Khalili is open daily and is the most popular location to shop for traditional items such as handicrafts, metalwork, jewelry, spices and textiles. Expect to bargain hard for items to avoid paying a much higher price than necessary. This is an integral part of the Egyptian market tradition.
