Cafes, bars and pubs
Cologne has absolutely no shortage in cafes, bars or any other kind of location where you can sit and sip a coffee. As any other touristy city, Cologne is packed with all kind of coffee and snack bars, traditional cafes, restaurants or eateries. Especially along the river banks of the Rhine many cafes have settled to attract tourists coming from the close-by sightseeing attractions. Also the Old Town and the shopping streets don’t need to hide. Cafes line up and the choice is only yours. Some cafes also serve pastry, cakes or some hearty snacks. Others even transform into a kind of restaurant during the evening hours. A fantastic opportunity to check out a café is attending their breakfast buffet. Some locations offer an amazingly rich breakfast with fruits, vegetables, eggs and many different kinds of breads, cereals and fillings.
But be aware that the locations in the heart of the city, where many tourists are making their tour, sometimes have ridiculously high prices and the service is not always the best. Most of the waiters expect a tip and it is common to leave about 10 – 15 % of the bill. Checking some places outside the city centre is definitely worth a try. They are not only cheaper but often have a better service and a nicer atmosphere.
