Cologne is a city with a vibrant nightlife. Especially at the weekends people swarm into bars, clubs, cafes and lounges in the inner city. Main attraction point are the Old Town, the student quarter “Kwartier Latäng” around Zülpicher Straße and Luxemburger Straße, the Friesen Quarter around the Friesenplatz, the Belgian Quarter, the South of the city (Chlodwigplatz and Alteburger Straße) as well as the ring roads between Kaiser-Wilhelm-Ring and Rudolfplatz. The character of Cologne is young, dynamic and trendy when it comes to nightlife. Stylish bars and discos, cosy cafes and enormously spacious dance halls guarantee that your night out in Cologne will be unforgettable. Also very popular are the traditional brew houses where mainly “Kölsch”, the local beer is served. Brew houses are a mixture of pub and beer cellar and many people don’t make it to any other location anymore after having a couple of “Kölsch”. Since Cologne is also known for its lively gay scene there are many gay bars and discos. In July the city turns into a big gay party with the Christopher Street Day.
