Café Glyptotek
You will find this delightful atrium café located within the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek building. There is a great view from the café over the Winter Garden, and the dining area is both simple and elegant. The coffee and tea is very good, and there is a wide selection of homemade desserts and delicacies.

Café Paludan
The Fiolstrćde is a street that has recently enjoyed a renaissance, going from down-at-heel to hip. Now the area is full of artsy bookshops and is known as a hang-out for intellectuals, one of which being Café Paludan. It doubles as a café and a bookshop, and you can browse while sipping a coffee, or take your books to a table and read and snack before buy them. They take their coffee seriously here and serve over 20 different kinds. The croissants are good, and there are several other snacks and sandwiches to choose from.

La Glace
This old fashioned café and bakery has been around since the 1870s, and retains much of its old world charm. The décor is elegant and somewhat art nouveau, with marble table tops and some antique prints on the walls. The hot chocolate is a specialty here, as well as a wonderful selection of homemade cakes. They also serve good coffee and tea, as well as some well-selected wines and other alcoholic beverages. The cream served with the coffee is delicious and extremely fresh. In the warmer monthes, there are a couple tables outside, which are much preferable to the somewhat stuffy interior when it’s hot out.

Akvavit
A charming café that tends to attract a sophisticated clientele, Akvavit serves excellent food and drink at high prices. There are many kinds of light meals available, including salads, smřrrebrřd and bagel sandwiches, though not much by way of heartier fare. There is a wide selection of drinks, including high-quality coffee, wines and fruit juices. The outdoor tables here are very popular, and one can relax in the shade of an umbrella while people watching and enjoying a great view of Christiansborg.

Řieblikket
This café is located inside the lobby of the Royal Library, just to the right as you enter. It’s name comes from the first work of Kierkegaard to be printed. Next door there is another establishment referencing Kierkegaard, the restaurant Sřren K. At Řieblikket, you have a nice choice of sandwiches, quiches, soups, salads and other light meals, as well as a variety of drinks to choose from. It’s an ideal place to stop after visiting Christiansborg or perusing the library.

Café Sommersko
One of the most popular cafés in the city, Sommersko has been around for a very long time. There are many tables and the café is quite roomy, but you may still have to wait to be seated. They serve refreshing teas and juices, a variety of coffees, and many other good drinks. You can order a snack or a more substantial meal, and the house specialty is the “meat brunch.” There is also a vegetarian version and a nice selection of sandwiches. The desserts are excellent, and include cakes, pastries, brownies and ice cream. The café is open from early to late, and becomes a very hip handout after 10 pm.

Det Gule Hus
A new café located in the up-and-coming area around Istedgade, Det Gele Hus serves a variety of Danish snacks and light meals. Their brunches are particularly popular, and are served every day until 2 pm. The décor is sleek with a nice polished wood floor, and the walls are covered with old photographs of the neighbourhood. Prices are quite reasonable.

Mĺnefiskeren
This quirky and lively café is located in the middle of the Christiania district. You can easily pick the café out from the surrounding buildings by the bright lights and distinctive sign, a man on the mood holding a fishing rod and a joint. They serve good breakfasts here and sandwiches and cakes all day, as well as a very wide selection of drinks. There are snooker tables and chessboards, and people playing games makes for a friendly and upbeat atmosphere. Also, don’t be surprised if you see customers smoking joints.

Det Lille Apotek
This is a popular bar/café with students, both Danish and foreign. You can usually be assured of finding people from many different nationalities here, and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. All the usual drinks are served, as well as a variety of food. The menu changes from week to week, but some regular favourites are the tenderloin and the prawn cocktail.

Catwalk
A hip new gay bar, Catwalk is becoming one of the hottest bars in Copenhagen. It is full of cute local men and is also very popular with tourists. A wide selection of drinks is available, including some special cocktails and nice local beers. There is a DJ playing lively music, and the cruising scene picks up as the night wears on.

Hvids Vinstue
This is Copenhagen’s oldest wine bar, located in a building from 1670. It has been a wine cellar since 1723, and is full of character, dimly lit and decorated with interesting pictures and old furnishings. Many people come here before or after shows at the Royal Theatre, which is just across the street. The drinks here feature fine wines, cognacs, whiskeys, beers and more. There is a no-music policy, which makes this a great place to hold a conversation or to sit in quiet contemplation.

Library Bar
A very chic and elegant bar, the Library Bar was once rated one of the top five bars in the world by Malcolm Forbes. It attracts a posh clientele, and has been frequently visited by celebrities and royalty. The bar is situated in the lobby of the Hotel Plaza, one of Copenhagen’s most famous hotels. The space was originally designed as the ballroom and is very spacious. It is called the Library Bar because it features a selection of antique books on the shelves, as well as several works of art. The drinks are wonderful, whether you order a cappucino or a cocktail. Despite the upscale environment, prices are comparable to other bars.

Nyhavn 17
This is one of the few establishments still left over from when the Nyhavn area was the sailor’s quarter. It’s a down-to-earth yet fairly pricey bar with a nautical theme, and is very close to the Kongens Nytorv. When it is warm there are tables set up on the lovey terrace on the water.

The Queen''s Pub
Located within the King Frederik hotel, this cozy pub has a traditional Scandanavian feel and a friendly atmosphere. The décor is sumptuous and includes English walnut panelling, red brocade accents and etched Victorian glass. This pub is known for being popular with politicians and journalists, though the crowd is usually quite varied. There are some great beers here, both domestic and imported, as well as some fine wines. Coffee and tea are also available and of good quality.
