The Royal Theatre (Det Kongelige Teater)
The Copenhagen Royal Theatre has been at the centre of the city’s cultural life since it was built in the 18th century. The theatre as it now stands dates from 1874, but the original theatre was built in 1748. It is one of the main venues for dance in the city and the home of both the Royal Ballet and the Danish Royal Opera. Ballet companies from all over the world perform here in the distinctive circular auditorium.
Dansescenen
This is Copenhagen’s main venue for contemporary dance, where both Danish and international troupes perform. The styles of performances are quite varied, and include jazz dance, experimental dance and many other forms of modern dance.
