by train
Copenhagen has an integrated bus and city train network known as S-tog. Trains and buses run every day from 5 am - 12.30 am, and night buses take over later on. The S-tog covers all of Copenhagen as well as servicing the suburbs. Fares are based on a 7-zone system, and the price of your ticket depends on how many zones you will pass through. The minimum is two zones. The same tickets are used for the S-trains, metro and buses, and you can transfer for free from one mode of transport to another. You can buy tickets at all stations, and discount cards and 10-ride tickets are also available. There are maps at all stations that show which stops fall in which zones. For more information on trains, visit www.s-tog.dk or call +45 (36) 131415.

by metro
Copanhagen has a fairly new metro service, which opened in 2002 and has been expanding ever since. There are no conductors and the trains are fully automatic, but there is an attendant who checks tickets. Trains run every day from 5 am - 1 am. More information on the metro is available at www.m.dk, or you can call +45 (33) 111700.

Taxis
Copenhagen is home to four major taxi companies, København Taxa (+45 35 353535), Amager Taxi (+45 32 515151), Hovedstadens Taxi (+45 38 777777), and Taxamotor (+45 38 101010). You will usually see taxis that you can hail in the street, but you can always telephone them in advance. There is a flat rate, around 22 kr, to start with, and then an additional 10 kr or so per kilometre. Rates are slightly higher late at night or on weekends or holidays. Most taxis accept credit cards. It is not necessary to give a tip, but it is common to round up the bill or to give extra for outstanding service. There are also cycle taxis available, mostly in the city centre. The main companies are Quickshaw (+45 70 201375) and Copenhagen Rickshaw (+45 35 430122).

by bike
Bike is the main mode of transport for many of Copenhagen’s residents. The small size of the city means that one can get around easily, and there are bike lanes on all major streets as well as some scenic paths through parks. In the months from April to September, the city provides free bikes to tourists, which you can collect from one of the many City Bike Parks locations for a small deposit fee of 20 kr. There are many other bike rental facilities, with short and long-term rental options and a wide selection of bicycles.
