Dublin is crawling with good places to drink, snack and hangout. The most famous pub district is the Temple Bar area, which is also where most of the best restaurants in the city are located. This section of town gets very touristy, however, and can sometimes get a bit too much on the hectic side late at night. Other streets where you will find excellent pubs and bars include George’s Street and South Anne Street. Dublin’s bar scene has changed a good deal in recent years, and there are now two main categories of drinking establishments, the traditional pubs and the trendy, designer bars. There is a huge range in the size of bars, from ones that can seat hundreds, to the Dawson Lounge, the smallest pub in Dublin, where there is room for six people to drink in the basement. It has recently become illegal to smoke in any bars or cafés in Ireland, which makes for a big change from the smoke-filled pubs that used to dominate the city.
