In the last decade, Dublin’s nightlife scene has experienced radical changes, and the city has gone from a place where not much happens at night to a town with numerous hip, stylish clubs, bars that bustle until the wee hours, and a vibrant, eclectic music scene. Temple Bar is the most trendy and popular place to hang out after dark, and has the highest concentration of bars, clubs, late-night restaurants and entertainment venues. Most bars and pubs close by 2 am, but clubs generally stay open until 4 am or even later. There is a nice variety among Dublin’s clubs, with some that are chic and somewhat outlandish, such as Place of Dance, some that are sophisticated and exclusive like Lillie’s Bordello, and others that are hip yet unpretentious and where everybody just comes to have a good time. There are all kinds of live music happening late at night, and most venues feature a little bit of everything. It is not uncommon to find jazz, pop, traditional Irish, and folk performances under the same roof. Good publications you check while in Dublin to find out about the latest nightlife events include Totally Dublin and In Dublin, which also has a website at www.indublin.ie.
