Rí-Rá
The name of this club means “uproar” in Gaelic, and is an appropriate appellation for this lively, loud, and popular hangout. It mainly attracts trendy students and fun-loving people in their 20s and 30s. Rí-Rá is friendlier and more welcoming than many of Dublin’s clubs, and you are unlikely to feel like an outsider. The music generally varies between pop, rock, hip-hop and punk.

Lillie’s Bordello
This club is one of the oldest in Dublin, but is still known as the coolest and most exclusive in town. It’s a hangout for some of the city’s rock and film stars, and has its fair share of posers. It is certainly one of a kind, and it is a great place if you want to chill in sophisticated and occasionally outrageous surroundings with stylish and famous people. The décor features paintings of nudes on red walls reminiscent of old-fashioned bordellos, and the “library” lounge is decorated with books and worn leather furnishings in the style of a Victorian gentleman’s club.

Spy Club
This club consists of a bar and a lounge, and does not have a dance floor. The emphasis here is on socializing, and it attracts a somewhat older crowd than Dublin’s other clubs, with the average age being mid-30s. The club is situated in an 18th century townhouse that is full of charm, and decorated with simple yet chic modern furnishings. Saturday is electric pop night and Sunday is gay night. The other nights feature a mix of music, with emphasis on pop, rock and folk.

Voodoo Lounge
A rougher, more down-and-dirty club, the Voodoo lounge is not elegant or chic, but is decidedly cool and fun. It features hip, hardcore music, primarily hip-hop, R&B, and metal, and has a packed dance floor on the weekends. It’s the perfect alternative club for those who are tired of the generic techno-pop mixes played at most others.
The Pod (Place of Dance)
Probably Dublin’s best-known dance club, The Pod is located in the city centre and popular with a very young crowd. It is located in what used to be a historic railway station, and has won awards for its distinctive design. It is underground and has granite walls, and the circular dance floor has an inflatable sculpture hanging above it that diffuses the light. The Pod is trendy and wants to keep up its sophisticated image, so you may not get in wearing too casual clothes.
