Anthology Books
One of Dublin’s best specialty, off-beat bookstores, Anthology features small-press publications and alternative and progressive literature, including a good gay and lesbian section. The shop was established by an artist and a librarian, and is a great place to browse for books that are a bit different, and chosen for their content rather than their popularity. There are books on a wide variety of topics, and the goal is to stock literature that appeals to a diverse population. In addition to books, they stock CDs, DVDs, and some photography. There is also a café in the shop, specializing in fair trade coffee, tea, chocolate, and some nice pastries.

Cathach Books
A shop of old and rare books, Cathach is full of character and is a real treat for those who are serious about literature. The historic shop is small, with a charming and quaint atmosphere, and includes a fascinating array of titles. Emphasis is given to Irish literature, and the rare editions for sale include works by James Joyce, W.B. Yeats, Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett, and Seamus Heaney. You will also find many good books by lesser-known Irish writers that are worth perusing.

Hodges Figgis
This is a gigantic bookstore with an excellent selection, and is always one of the best bets if you are looking for a hard-to-find book. It has sections covering just about every topic, and is so big that it seems more like a library than a bookshop. One of its main specialties is literature, but browsing through the shelves will reveal obscure and surprising books in many genres, as well as the classic and popular works.
