Road Records
Road Records is the best place in Dublin for alternative, punk, indie, electronica, reggae, folk and roots music. The owners stock only what they consider to be the best music in these genres, so while you won’t as extensive a selection as the megastores, you can count on there being some excellent recordings to choose from, and there’s a good chance you’ll discover some new favourites here. The shop has a comfortable, informal atmosphere and is a great place to browse. Details of what they stock can be found on the Road Records website.
Claddagh Records
This shop is well-known among lovers of traditional Irish music, and specializes in Irish folk, trad, and contemporary music. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable and can assist you in finding whatever you need. They are dedicated to promoting good up-and-coming artists, which makes it a great place to discover hot new recordings. They also carry one of the most comprehensive selections of traditional Celtic music in the city.
The Celtic Note
Another store specializing in Irish music, The Celtic Note’s selection is second only to Claddagh Records. They have wonderful variety, and you can listen to any CD before you buy it. The prices tend to be a bit higher than the bigger CD stores, but if it’s Irish music you’re interested in, there’s a very good chance they’ll have what you’re looking for.
Chapters Book and Music Store
This is one of the best secondhand book and music stores in Dublin, and they also carry new merchandise. The used CDs are checked for quality, and you can count on them sounding just fine. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable and they are always happy to assist you in finding something. There is also a wide selection of books, and some DVDs and computer and video games. It is possible to exchange your own used books or CDs for items in the shop.
