Boccadama
This is a café that doubles as an upscale wine bar. They serve light fare for breakfast, lunch and a late dinner, with emphasis placed on their well-stocked wine cellar. They offer over 400 kinds of Italian wine, served by the glass with your choice of meats, cheeses or warm dishes. Coffee, tea, juices and other beverages are also served, and pastries are always available. Salads are popular as well. The décor here is new and chic, and even if you just stop by for a glass of wine, you are served at a table, not at a bar like the old traditional wine bars.

On Sunday a special brunch is served. Free appetizers include curry risotto, mixed crostini with artichoke spread, and tomatos and basil.
There are some tables lined up on the sidewalk, and the terrace is a popular place for the well-dressed to hang out in the evening, sippling the cocktails that are particularly good here. The café is located right on the Arno and makes for a pleasant and scenic atmosphere. The décor is quaint with old-fashioned Italian tiles on the walls and some well-chosen artwork.

The menu varies according to the season, and in the summer meals are served on the spacious and popular terrace. The food options include freshly-baked rolls, a variety of salads, snacks and delicious desserts. The homemade ice cream is particularly good and comes in many different flavours.

Foodwise, the café has the usual coffee and cakes, featuring several special coffee blends. They also offer dishes such as vegetable quiches, omlettes, salads, and a variety of pasta entrees. La Via del Tè
This is a tearoom, with one of the finest selections of tea available. They stock more than 250 varieties of tea, with of course all the well-known choices from India, China and Japan, but also a wide array of unusual and little-known teas from all over the world. The tearoom is situated in a down-to-earth neighbourhood in an old, colonial-style building across from the Sant’Ambrogio church.
While tea is the featured beverage, some other options are also available. And to eat, a delightful array of snacks and desserts is on offer. It is not a restaurant, however, so don’t expect a meal. The focus is on the gourmet selection of teas, and everything else is an accompaniment. The owner of La Via del Tè is Alfredo Carrai, who used to be a coffee merchant but fell in love with quality tea during a trip to China. He opened this establishment in 1997, and purposefully chose a working class area rather than a posh or touristy one, because he wanted to make the statement that “tea is not just for the elite.”

The chef generally focuses on Tuscan specialties and some common first courses served here include minestrone with porcini mushrooms and chickpeas, rosemary maltagliati pasta with garlic, beans and peppers, and fish ravioli. Main courses often feature fowl, usually duck or chicken, cooked to perfection. Many come here solely to sample the wines, however, and then you are offered a plate of meats and cheeses to accompany them. The food here is simply yet elegantly presented and the décor and atmosphere are unpretentious and welcoming.
