Florence’s nightlife comprises a variety of lively clubs, discos, bars and music venues. The clubs and bars are almost all in the city centre, concentrated around the main squares. There has been a trend for opening Irish pubs, but there are also several other types of bars, including English, Spanish and American as well as traditional Tuscan. The minimum drinking age in Florence is 18. The clubbing scene attracts a very young crowd, especially in the Oltrarno district south of the river, a traditional hang-out area for students. Other centres for nightlife activity include the Piazza della Signoria and the Palazzo Vecchio. Entrance fees for clubs tend to be pricey, often between €10 - 15. There aren’t all that many options for late-night live music, but there are a couple really good jazz clubs and a variety of rock and pop options, often with dancing as well. The newsletter Firenze Spettacolo is a good source to find out what is going on in the city at any given time, focusing on clubs, bars and live music. It is available at newsstands throughout the city.
