Maracanà
This is a Brazilian club and restaurant that is known as an exciting place to hang out, considered by some to be the hottest club in Florence. Food is served until 11 pm or so, and some of the specialties include the traditional Brazilian feijoada and churrasco con farofa as well as the usual pizza and snacks. Good beer is served here, both Brazilian and European varieties, and sugar cane grappa or cachaca is also featured. Between about 11 pm and midnight, a live cabaret show takes place, often with very impressive dance acts. When this is over, the place turns into a Latin disco, with many people dancing samba. Sundays often have a special show, and the atmosphere is usually more laid back.

Jaragua
This club is somewhat removed from the main tourist areas and cultivates a Caribbean-style atmosphere with a lot of dancing. It is a fairly refined club, quite different from some of the raucous student hang-outs. They attract a somewhat more cultured and sophisticated clientele, and each evening begins with Latin dance lessons, for beginners as well as those with more experience. Later on, everyoe crowds onto the small dance floor and dances things like merengue, salsa, mambo and cha-cha. The club also includes a nice terrace where you can sit and drink and enjoy the music. They have wonderful cocktails, but unlike many clubs in Florence, drinking is optional even though the entrance is free.

Universale
Located in what used to a cinema, this chic club is popular with people of pretty much all ages. Recently renovated and reopened, it is laid out as a huge entertainment complex, including a restaurant, bar, dance floor and concert space. Many people stop by for a drink and a meal after work, while others come later on for the live entertainment and dancing. The restaurant is located on the balcony and serves basic food like pizza and salads, as well as more gourmet Tuscan fare and a variety of international dishes. All many of shows take place here, from cabaret and concerts to fashion shows. The evening entertainment usually begins around 11 pm, most often with a band. When this has ended, a DJ takes over the disco until closing. Some nights are theme nights of have special offers, such as Wednesdays when international students get in free (with proof of ID.) There is a dress code, so dress fairly nicely.

Yab
This is a well-known club in Florence, particularly popular with American students, and it is one of the largest clubs in the city. Many locals go here as well, and they are the ones doing most of the dancing, while the foreigners line the sides and chat. You are given a “drink card” and pay for the drinks at the end. Make sure not to lose this, or you have to pay a large fee. Monday evenings feature hip-hop music and are always popular. On other evenings, there is a smaller room dedicated to hip-hop and rap while the main dance floor plays other music. The dress here is somewhat more casual than other Florence clubs, but most people dress up to some extent. There is a one drink minimum.
