Florence has a vibrant shopping scene, including some world famous shops, and is one of the major fashion and style centres of Italy. It is home to a variety of unique and high quality shops. There is everything from chic designer clothing shops to earthy markets and craft shops. Prices do not tend to be cheap, but you find things here that you can’t get anywhere else. The Ponte Vecchio is a popular place for shopping, albeit very touristy. The shops on this bridge are very tiny, and made up mostly of stores selling jewelry. It’s also a good place to come for souvenirs. The Via Maggio is well-known place to shop for antiques, and some of the furnishings and objects sold here go back to the 16th century. Clothing shops are scattered throughout the city, but the place to go for stylish boutiques and Florence’s world famous designer brands is the Via dei Tornabuoni. Open-air markets are another distinctive feature of the city, selling everything you can imagine, from delicious local produce to leather, crafts, flowers and more.
