Centro Libri
This is an interesting and cheap little bookshop, selling a variety of books for 50% off the cover price. Their focus is on books about art, architecture and history. Many of their books focus specifically on Florentine or Tuscan art and history. There are also a number of dictionaries sold here, also discounted.

Feltrinelli
This is Italy’s biggest bookstore chain, and is a good place to find what you’re looking for. They have a very wide selection of books and magazines, covering 3000 metres of shelves. The store is divided into sections to make browsing easier, and there are also computer stations available to look up titles in the catalogue.

BM Bookshop
This bookshop specializes in English language books, and is probably the oldest English bookshop in the city. It was begun almost fifty years ago by an American woman and her Italian husband. Recently they have begun to also carry books in French, German and Spanish. There are all manner of tour guides sold here, and among other things many books on art, architecture, design and fashion. One of the special aspects of this bookshop is also the wide selection of Italian cookbooks (in different languages), teaching everyone how to make the traditional local delicacies.

Messaggerie Internazionale Seeber
A prestigious and unique bookshop in the city centre, this one is packed with noteworthy and scholarly titles. Made up of several rooms and passageways, it has a charming and old-world atmosphere. The art section alone contains close to 10,000 volumes, and the humanities and foreign language sections are also very extensive, and there are some wonderful poetry books. In addition, there is a wide selection of tour guides in every language.
