by bus
You can get pretty much everywhere in Florence by bus, but the schedules are not always listed at the stops. Almost any tourist information centre will be able to provide detailed bus information, however. Within the city, the bus services are run by the ATAF. Buses run from around 6 am - 1 am, and there are fewer buses on Sunday than other days of the week.
Tickets are sold at the ticket booth in Piazza Stazione as well as at any newsstand or tobacco shop that displays an orange ATAF sticker on the window. When you board the bus, you have to stamp your ticket in the machine, and the ticket can be used for an hour after the time on the stamp. Late at night it is possible to buy tickets from the driver (around 9.30 pm - 6 am). A variety of bus passes for periods longer than a day are available and give a discount on the fare. More information can be found at www.ataf.net.

Taxis
Taxis are readily available in Florence, usually gathering at the main plazas in the centre. Taking a taxi is a convenient way to get around because taxis are allowed down streets that are closed to regular traffic, but they are rather expensive. There are also additional charges for luggage and for late-night trips. The main taxi companies in Florence are called Socota and Taxi Radio, Socota being the largest. Both companies have white taxis. The number to call for Socota is +39 (0)55 4242 and for Taxi Radio +39 (0)55 4499.
