Alte Oper Frankfurt (also concert and convention house)
The Alte Oper Frankfurt (Old Opera House) was built between 1813 and 1820 by the architect R. Lucae, which followed the renaissance style of the building of the famous architect G. Semper. The 34 m high building was damaged badly in both World Wars but nevertheless the civil initiative of Frankfurt had the Old Opera renovated between 1972 and 1981 so that a newly decorated and multifunctional building was established. With a new technical concept which makes the acoustics are better than ever before the Old Opera appears to be a concert and convention house. The Great Hall which is lined with mahogany wood and which has 2500 seats and the Concert Hall or Mozart Hall, which offers space for 700 people, give enough room for a wide spectrum of events. National and international ensembles and soloists of old and modern music as well as jazz, rock and pop. Also other genres such as cabaret and seasonal suite events with dance, musical and children’s programme are included. But the Old Opera is also well known as a convention location. About 50 events such as balls, conventions, press conferences and receptions, product presentations and company jubilees are taking place over here. Furthermore there are special events including classic and jazz nights, family concerts and amateur competitions.
