Frankfurter Volkstheater
The Folk theatre Frankfurt offers a varied repertoire from classics to entertainment, contemporary works and reproductions of old stage literature. The performances deal with past and daily topics in a characteristic dialect of the region in order to bring these problems closer to the visitor. The aim of the theatre is to make people think in an entertaining and funny way. The performances take place at the main location, the Cantate Hall, next to Goethe’s birthplace. But the folk theatre is the only theatre in Frankfurt with an outdoor location: the courtyard of the Dominican monastery and the historic garden in front of the cathedral. The theatre was founded as an ensemble without constant location in 1971 by Liesel Christ. Besides their performances in Frankfurt the theatre performs all over Hesse as well as Israel and is well known for its TV recording.
