Restaurants
Unlike other regions in Spain, Granada is not well known for its culinary delights, but you can find a few good restaurants in the city, that use the local fresh products. Some of the restaurants offer a stunning view of the Alhambra.
In Granada (and Andalusia region) the main meal of the day is lunch. Lunch is normally served between 2 pm to 5 pm. Very few locals go out for dinner, as lunch is served quite late, but they will enjoy the many bars around the city that also serve free of charge delicious tapas dishes along with your drinks.
Granadino cuisine
Granadino cuisine is an interesting blend of meats, sausages, seafood, fresh vegetables and fruits with definite Arab influences in many of the dishes. The Granadino cooking is quite heavy on spices and rich in soups and desserts.
Granda’s tapas (miniature cooking) is the most informal yet varied way to have lunch or dinner. It is served for free at all bars in the city to wash down a glass of good local wine or beer. Tapas dishes are served in small plates of Analusian style potatoes, stewed snails, fish in batter and many more.
Some famous Granadino dishes you can try during your visit to this wonderful city:
Tortilla Sacromonte – an omelette with a vegetable mixture.
Olla de San Anton – a mix of lima beans, pig’s head or ear, bacon and blood sausage.
Olla podrida – a stew of lamb, pork, veal, chicken, sausage and ham with a mix of vegetables.
Granada’s special sweet pastries are still prepared in the traditional way by nuns of the convents of Granada. The variety is large: sweetened pumpkin, apples with blackberries, thick French toast with honey and delicate cream filled cakes soaked in light syrup. In some cases you can buy them and enjoy the delicious taste of home made sweets.
