Restaurants, Bars and Cafes in Huelva

Huelva has many good restaurants, the majority of which serve traditional local food. Seafood is a specialty of many restaurants, and since Huelva is a port city, it is fresher and less expensive than many other places. Tapas is available at several restaurants and is a popular dinner option, offering an opportunity to try a wide variety of Spanish dishes in small quantities. In addition to traditional Andalucían restaurants, there are also a number of Italian restaurants in Huelva, as well as some Chinese, Turkish, and Mediterranean ones.

Huelvas cuisine
Fresh seafood is a staple of Huelva cuisine and there are always many delicious fish and shellfish options in restaurants and markets. Fried fish is common, as well as fish grilled with garlic and parsley or baked in salt. Huelva is known for having some of the best white prawns (gambas blancas) in Spain, as well as excellent clams. Two other city specialties are monkfish in white wine (rape al vino blanco) and skate with paprika (raya al pimentón). This province is also one where many grapes and olives are grown, giving the region distinctive wines and olive oils. Arabian influence on Spanish and Huelvan cuisine is found in the ways olive oils and fruits and vegetables are used, and in several Andalucían desserts with almonds, figs and egg yolks. Tomatos and peppers form the base for many Andalucían dishes, and some not to miss include Gazpacho and Cocido Madrileño. Huelva is also famous in Spain for its pork and ham products, particularly the jamón serrano or “mountain-cured ham,” which is special here because of the iberico breed of pigs, fed on acorns that give the ham a particularly delicious flavour.
