Great Palace Mosaic Museum
The Mosaic Museum is located in the Sultanahmet area of Istanbul behind the Blue Mosque and contains a small but impressive collection of mosaics that were found by archaeologists while looking for the remains of the Byzantine imperial palace. They were discovered in the 1950s and depict mythological and hunting scenes. Experts believe that they date back to the reign of Justinian (527 – 565 AD) or even earlier and have been part of the walkway between the royal apartments and the imperial seats at the Hippodrome.
