Archaeology Museum
This museum has been much improved in recent years, and now includes many fascinating and well-presented exhibits. Highlights include a room dedicated to life during the Stone Age, an extensive exhibit on local clothing from 70,000 BC to the 1300s, and a collection of artifacts from ancient Egypt. This latter includes mummified cats, intricately carved and painted sarcophagi and other items, and woven shrouds. Audio guides are available in several lanugages, which you can pick up when you buy your ticekt. Admission is free on Sundays for the permanent exhibitions.

History of Photography Musuem
The only museum in Poland that is exclusively about photography, this has a wonderful array of exhibits crammed into a small space. In addition to artistic photographs from the 19th century to the present and many historical images of Krakow, there is furnished old darkroom and a collection of cameras. There are many frequently-changing exhibitions of photos displayed here, as well as the permanent collection.
Opening times: Wed- Fri 11 am- 6 pm, Sat and Sun 10 am- 3.30 pm

The National Musuem of Art
This musuem features primarily Polish art, and has both an extensive permanent collection and frequent temporary exhibitions. There are paintings from hundreds of years ago up through the present, and an interesting collection of applied arts as well. One of the highlights is the prestigious permanent collection of 20th century Polish art. There is also a bookshop and café within the musuem. Admission is free on Sunday to all of the permanent exhibits.

Manggha
This is an interesting musuem to encounter in Krakow, as it is dedicated to Japanese art and technology. It houses a beautiful and dynamic collection, including ancient Japanese artifacts, delicate porcelain, 19th-century battlesuits and face masks, and beautiful watercolours and woodcuts. There is also a section dedicated to Japanese comics and anime, often hilariously translated.

History Museum
This excellent musuem about the history of Krakow has been around for more than a hundred years, founded in 1899. It features exhibitions charting the trade, culture, politics, daily life, and art of the city through the ages, focusing on the period from 1257 - 1939. There is also a special exhibit about Poland’s struggle for independence after the first world war. The musuem’s building itself is a historical treasure, a luxurious 17th century mansion with many of the original details still intact.

Burgher House
This building was a lavish family home in the 16th and 17th centuries, belonging to the Hippolit family, and is now a musuem that recreates rooms and elements from typical bourgeois Polish houses through the ages. There are rooms and artifacts from the 17th to the early 20th century, that offer a fascinating glimpse into how people lived in past eras and display some beautiful and intricate old furniture and other items. Admission is free on Wednesdays.
