When walking through Leiden it's rich history still seems very much alive. This is where Rembrandt was born and developed his painting skills for 26 years before he moved to Amsterdam. This is where the first Dutch university was founded at 1575 and this is where Clusius brought the first Dutch tulips into flower at 1592.
Leiden has 12 museums (five of them are national museums), all worth a visit that can give you a very deep perception of the Dutch culture.
Leiden has a number of theatres and concert halls where various shows (plays, modern dance, bands, theatre productions, ballets) are offered on a daily basis. To see what is on, you can check the schedules on the available theatre & concert hall websites. You will see the prominent shows advertised on notice boards throughout Leiden.
