Hortus Botanicus
The Hortus Botanicus is Leiden University''s green plant treasure house, which was founded at 1587. Here Clusius worked for Leiden University doing medicine herb research. During his research he planted a few bulbs he got from Turkey known as Tulips. The huge tulip fields near Leiden are the direct results of Clusius’ work.
Plants from all corners of the world have been collected and cultivated, admired and studied in the magnificent garden and glasshouses for more than four centuries. A stroll through the garden takes you past giant trees, such as the Ginkgo biloba from 1785. The crowning glory is the Clusius Garden, a reconstruction of the first garden.

Molenmuseum De Valk
De Valk is the only windmill that survived out of nineteen that surrounded the city walls. The mill used no fewer than four millstones, which provided considerable capacity. De Valk continued to produce flour until well into the 20th century, although this was not powered by wind during the final years. The last miller kept a guest book in which the oldest signatures date back to 1930.
On 2 June 1966, De Valk became a municipal museum following the death of the last miller, Willem van Rhijn, in 1964 at the age of 87
This windmill was accurately reconstructed and when you step into it, you learn how similar its building and operation was as to ancient ships.
