De Hooykist
The Hooykist is the oldest eetcaf’e in Leiden and was established at 1980. This is the place for meat or fish lovers and also for vegetarians with a variety of courses, all prepared with fresh ingredients. The meals are simple, but good and quite cheap.
Although the kitchen closes at 10 pm, the owner promises to keep the bar open until the last guest leaves.
Het Prentenkabinet
France right in the middle of Leiden. Based in the centre of the old city in an old monumental house, this is one of the most beautiful and mostly characteristic restaurants in town. This restaurant is a little pricey, but has a sophisticated menu with about a 100 different kinds of wine from all over the world.
You can enjoy lovely dishes as creamy lobster soup, shot down wild duck roasted on the bone or a sautéed veal fillet. You should keep yourself back with the main dishes in order to enjoy the extraordinary desserts.
Opening times:
Mon – Sun 6 pm – closing. The restaurant will open for lunch only on upon request.
