Cafe Brasileira
This cafe is an institution and is one of the city's famous cafes. It was opened in 1905 and still has the original art nouveau decor of mirrored walls and a long oak panelled bar straight out of the 18th century. Cafe Brasileira is the perfect place to enjoy a strong bica and a delicious pastel de nata while sitting outside and watching the crowd pass by.
Cafe Nicola
This is another well - known coffee house institution that was opened in 1929 and used to be a place for many political and literary meetings. Today it serves mostly tourists that come to enjoy this historic place and enjoy a cup of coffee with a view. You can stand at the counter for a quick bica or take a seat and enjoy a tasty treat. The cafe has a branch near by called Nicola Gourmet that sells over twenty kinds of coffee beans.

Mon - Fri: 8 am - 11 pm, Sat: 10 am - 1 pm. Closed on Sundays.

Cafe no Chiado
This nice cafe is located on a nice quiet street at the Chiado district. It serves very good coffee and pastries and if you are hungry you can get here some good sandwiches, salads and quiches. The crowd is a complex of tourists, young intellectuals and locals that come to enjoy the great atmosphere and the large variety of foreign newspapers.

Antiga Pastelaria de Belem
This cafe is so famous for its custard tarts that it is referred to as a shrine of pastries. It serves an average of 10,000 pasties de Belem a day with an old secret recipe. The interior has a 17th century decor with tilled walls that give the place a special character. It might be difficult to find a table at times, specially in the weekends, but it is worth the wait.

Cafe Versailles
This baroque style cafe and restaurant is located in the business district of Saldanha. The interior is very elegant and impressive with crystal chandeliers and wood panels. It is the perfect place to enjoy a delicious pastry, a good coffee or hot chocolate. Although it is not set at the centre of touristy attraction, it is worth getting there.
