Lisbon has a mixed culture of old and new. The Portuguese culture is based on an ancient past since prehistoric times through eras of Roman and Moorish invasions that left their mark on the city. The Portuguese developed an impressive tradition of voyages that led them to other parts of the world and therefore many foreign influences had entered Portugal. Many of the city's museums, gardens and monuments are a reflection of old and new.
Lisbon has an impressive variety of museums, some of them are very unique as the Coaches Museum and the Water Museum that shed some light on the special history of this remarkable city.
