Calouste Gulbenkian Museum
This great museum covers European art from medieval times to the 20th century. It houses a magnificent collection of Egyptian, Roman, Greek, Asian, European and Islamic art. This museum displays one of the world's finest private art collection that was donated to the museum by late Calouste Gulbenkian, who was one of the wealthiest people in the 20th century. On the museum's grounds you can find the Modern Art Centre that displays more than 10,000 items of modern and contemporary Portuguese and foreign art.

Coaches Museum
The Coaches Museum is a must see attraction for every visitor to Lisbon. The museum has the largest collection of coaches in the world. It is housed in the former 18th century royal riding school in the Belem palace. Each coach is more magnificent than the other including the coach used by King Philip II of Spain and coaches from Portugal, France, Italy and Austria. The impressing collection includes other symbols of royalty such as court costumes, harnesses and portraits of the royal family.

Ancient Art Museum
The Ancient Art Museum was founded in 1884 and is located in a magnificent 17th century palace at Lapa district. The museum displays 14th to 20th century works of European artists such as Durer, Raphael and Bosch who painted one of the museum's main attractions, the "Temptation of St. Anthony". The museum also features sculptures, drawings, jewellery, Chinese porcelain and decorated silverware.

Water Museum
The Water Museum explains the rare complex 18th century water supply system of the city. It is located in the building where the first water pumping plant was established and has won the 1990 European council Award. The exhibition shows how Lisbon has received its water since Roman times and shows the history of the city's remarkable aqueduct that is made up of 109 stone arches and was built in 1746.

City Museum
The City Museum is located in a beautiful 18th century palace and offers visitors an accurate look at Lisbon''s long history. The museum displays maps and prints from before and after the great earthquake that took place in 1755, sculptures, paintings, drawings and tile panels related to the development of Lisbon. It is also nice to stroll around the museum grounds that have peacocks wandering around.

Maritime Museum
The fascinating Maritime Museum is located in the west wing of Jeronimos Monastery in Belem and is considered to be one of the most important in Europe. The museum illustrates the rapid progreos of Portugal's domination of the sea with over 17,000 items. The collection includes ship models from the Age of Discovery, marine vessels, royal barges from the 18th century and replicas of the 16th century maps showing the world as it was known then.

Apr - Sep: Tue - Sun: 10 am - 6 pm.
Closed on Mondays.

Military Museum
This impressive museum houses an extensive collection of artillery, guns, pistols, swords and armour. Highlights of the museum include a 14th century cannon, Vasco da Gama's sword and the sword belonging to King John.
A special section of the museum is devoted to the evolution of Portugal's weapon where you can see the wagon used to transport the triumphal arch to Rua Augusta.
