Teatro Nacional de Dona Maria II
Lisbon's most striking theatre was built in 1843 but was destroyed at a fire. It was reopened in 1978 after 14 years of reconstruction. Its repertoire is classical theatre of both Portuguese and foreign plays.

Teatro da Cornucopia
This theatre was founded in 1973 by Jorge Silva Melo and Luis Miguel Cintra as a nomadic theatre group. Today, settled in Lisbon their repertoire is more radical including Edward Bond and Gertrude Stein.
