Lisbon's nightlife is considered to be one of Europe's most vibrant. Bars and clubs are open till dawn also during the week and not only at the weekends. Most bars stay open until 2 am and most clubs don't close before 4 am. The Bairro Alto quarter is the main location of the city's bar scene and where most of the night action takes place. The waterfront area, also known as Docas, has recently evolved into one of the liveliest nightlife districts with many clubs, bars, restaurants and street cafes.
If you are interested in traditional Portuguese music, you can check out a Fado show. Fado is a song about sorrow and about life itself. The Fado singer is usually accompanied by guitar melodies played by a group of men. Many Fado houses can be found at Alfama, Bairro Alto and Alcantara districts.
