Theatre Royal Drury Lane
This is the counterpart of the Royal Opera House. Until 1843, when a law for the theatre was remitted, both houses enjoyed the privilege of a Royal Charta which gave them a sort of monopoly status. Many names of great actors are closely connected to the “Old Drury”, the old name of the colloquial name of the theatre. The legendary Nell Gwynne, mistress of Charles II. and one of the first women on stage, started her successful career over here. Today, the theatre stages mainly musicals.

Gate
Established in 1979, the Gate is London’s only theatre that is dedicated to international work productions. The capacity of 70 seats is comparably small but nevertheless the Gate is a very ambitious theatre which gives a chance to emerging artists to develop and leave their mark. Together with the Jerwood Charity they encourage young designer and push the borders of theatre design.

National Theatre
The Royal National Theatre is one of the world's great theatrical institutions. Four auditoria offer performances for everyone's tastes, ranging from Guys and Dolls to a Shakespeare play or the inventive Theatre de Complicité. The small “Cottesloe” is a small stage with experimental theatre while the bigger stages serve most of the common taste. Free concerts in the foyer and a nice café on the terrace are not only attracting visitors of the theatre. If you are interested in the backstage of the theatre you can take part in one of the numerous guided tours!

National Film Theatre
The National Film Theatre is a repertory cinema showing mainly a series of thematic movies, old classics, and independent and non-English language films. Tickets are only available to members.
